Harmony Institute » Harmony Projects
Harmony Institute has always been involved in social programs focusing mainly on providing psychological support and trainings for helping professionals.
In 1989 Harmony started the first Hotline Service for Children, Adolescents and Their parents in Russia. Since then trained psychologists have been providing 24-hour free psychological support for this population. Our service works 24 hours a day and has two channels. You can reach us at +7(812)708-40-41.
We also run a free Psychological Help Office for university students of St. Petersburg. The office works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the University Outpatient Clinic #75 (9, Kuznetzovskaya Str.). To make an appointment, please, call +7(812)369-8601.
Most of the social programs are carried out in partnership with charities, state agencies and businesses. To ensure the long-lasting cooperation we participate in grant competitions and look for partners who share our values.
In 2008-2009 we carried out Senior Citizens Support Project together with Social Support Center of Kirovsky district of St. Petersburg. This project included free psychological help for the elderly, trainings and supervision of social workers taking care of the old people.
In 2010-2011 with the support from Russian National Charity Foundations we developed and conducted a psychological assistance program for children and adolescents who have diabetes. We have also developed and implemented a program to provide psychological training and support for foster families.
During 2011-2015 Harmony lead a project supported by Russian private Charity Foundations “The Key” for specialists who work with foster families. This Foundation focuses on the work with orphans and foster families. They are trying to build sustainable living communities for the foster families. Harmony helped to build Foster Family Escort System (to train helping professionals who support such families), trained the necessary staff to do group work for trainers at the Schools for Foster Parents – which is a part of this program. Harmony Institute also lead 3 training programs (72 hours each) and 4 short trainings (4 hours each) for over 200 social workers and psychologists who work with foster families and families in crisis from St. Petersburg and other regions.
Since 2016 in cooperation with Charity Foundation “HesedAvraam” Harmony has been conducting a two year social project “Supportive Dialogue” which aims to support families with elderly people who were the prisoners of the Nazi concentration camps and also those who suffered from the Siege of Leningrad during the Second World War. The project includes individual and family counseling, education and support groups for relatives to help them to develop positive relationships. At the moment there are 42 families from St. Petersburg area who participate in this project. This project was initiated with the support of German State Foundation “Memory, Responsibility, and Future”.
In 2009 Harmony developed a project, called “I’m Responsible for Myself”, which is designed to teach adolescents healthy and responsible attitudes and behaviors toward alcohol. Since 2010, the project has been attended by 42 schools of St. Petersburg and 34 schools of Nizhny Novgorod. During this time 28 videos and more than 300 social advertising posters dealing with the theme of the project were created. The total number of participants in the project from 2010 to 2016 was about 5,700 teenagers. Over 1,700 parents and more than 350 teachers in both cities were involved in this project. We developed short trainings for kids “I Say “NO”!”, “I Am Responsible for Myself.” We also developed lectures for parents and teachers “How to talk about alcohol”. This project is supported by Heineken International, Ltd. In 2013, the program participated in two competitions: In Moscow, it won the All Russian Competition for Innovation in Education; and Heineken International selected it from among all its social projects throughout the world as the Best Social Project of 2013. The program passed the expertise of St. Petersburg Academy of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education and of Nizhniy Novgorod Institute for Advanced Training in Education and was recommended for use in educational institutions by St. Petersburg Educational Committee and Nizhniy Novgorod Department of Education. In 2013 the program got the official status of recommended extra curricular activity. In 2014 an on-line test for parents and teachers How to Discuss Difficult Topics with Adolescents was designed within the framework of the program. It is available at http://edu.sustainabilityrussia.ru. The site has also become a virtual resource for teachers and parents where they can ask psychologists about relational problems with adolescents, raise controversial issues, and discuss prevention of alcohol abuse. In 2016 an independent sociological center started a research to evaluate the effectiveness of our program. The results are expected in February 2017.
